História do Natal - History of the Christmas

Origem do Natal e o significado da comemoração
Origin of Christmas and the meaning of the celebration

Christmas is a time when we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. In ancient times, Christmas was celebrated in several different dates because they did not know the exact date of Jesus' birth. It was only in the fourth century that December 25 was established as the official date of commemoration. In ancient Rome, December 25 was the date on which the Romans commemorated the beginning of winter. Therefore, it is believed that there is a relationship of this fact with the official celebration of Christmas
The old Christmas celebrations used to last up to 12 days because this was the time it took to reach the three Magi to the city of Bethlehem and deliver the gifts (gold, frankincense and myrrh) to the infant Jesus. Nowadays, people often build trees and other Christmas decorations in early December and dismantle them until 12 days after Christmas.
From the chronological point of view, Christmas is a time of great importance to the West, as it marks the first years of our history.

      A Árvore de Natal e o Presépio
The Christmas tree and the crib

In almost every country in the world, people assemble Christmas trees to decorate homes and environments. In conjunction with the Christmas decorations, trees provide a special atmosphere in this period.
It is believed that this tradition began in 1530 in Germany with Martin Luther. One night, while walking through the forest, Luther was impressed with the beauty of snow-covered pines. The stars of heaven helped to compose the image that Luther played with tree branches in your home. Beyond the stars, cotton and whatnot, he used candles to show his family the beautiful scene that was witnessed in the forest.
This tradition was brought to the Americas by some Germans who came to live in America during the colonial period. In Brazil, the majority Christian, Christmas trees are present in several places, because in addition to decorating, symbolize joy, peace and hope.
The crib also represents an important Christmas decoration. It shows the scene of Jesus' birth, or a manger, animals, the Magi and the boy's parents. This tradition began to assemble cribs with St. Francis of Assisi in the thirteenth century. The Christmas songs are also part of this wonderful party.

História Do Dia Do Professor - Teacher's Day History

A idéia, inovadora e revolucionária, teria sido ótima – caso tivesse sido cumprida.
On October 15, 1827 (the day dedicated to educating St. Teresa of Avila), D. Peter I issued a decree that created the Imperial Elementary School in Brazil. By the decree, "all cities, towns and villages had their primary schools." This decree was talking about a lot: decentralization of education, teachers' salaries, the basic subjects that all students should learn, as well as teachers should be hired. The idea, innovative and revolutionary, would have been great - if it had been fulfilled.
It was only in 1947, 120 years after the decree, which was first celebrated a day dedicated to Professor.
It started in Sao Paulo in a small school in the number of 1520 Augusta Street, where there was the Gym Caetano de Campos, known as "Caetaninho." The long second half of the school went from June 1 to December 15, with only 10 vacation days throughout this period. Four teachers had the idea to organize a day of arrest to avoid burnout and also of reconciliation and analysis of directions for the remainder of the year.
Professor Solomon Becker suggested that the meeting was that on October 15, when, in his hometown, teachers and students brought candy from home for a small celebration. With teachers Alfredo Gomes, Antonio Pereira and Claudino Busko, the idea was launched, and then grow and become established throughout Brazil.
The celebration, which proved a success, spread throughout the city and the country beyond, nationally and even be official school holiday by Federal Decree 52682 of October 14, 1963. The decree defines the essence and reason for the holiday: "To celebrate appropriately Teachers' Day, the schools will promote solemnities, which compliments the master role in modern society by involving students and families."
